Two Sides

“I think we should tell someone.”

“Are you crazy? I thought we weren’t going to say anything, Ricky.”

“Yeah but…that was before that boy was on the news. In the paper. It’s serious now. Kids are talking about it at school. The police were there.”

“So?”

“What if he’s dead?”

“He ain’t dead. ‘Sides we’re gonna get in trouble. What you think they’re gonna do when we tell the cops we saw it and didn’t say anything?”

“But we are now…”

“They’ll lock us up, sure thing.”

“We’re 10, Jimmy.”

“Yeah, well, cops don’t care. I’ve seen ’em lock up grandmas, babies even.”

“Whatever. I don’t care. I’m telling my mom.”

“Ricky, I don’t–”

“You telling yours?”

“Ok, but if I get grounded you’re on your own at recess.”

Loved this one. I can really imagine these young characters debating their decision…brilliant once again!
